Frugal Romantic Valentine’s Dinner Recipes

Every year around Valentine’s Day couples spend an excessive amount of money when buying gifts. From teddy bears to chocolates to roses, purchasing a present for your special someone can be pretty expensive. If you’re anything like myself, you may not have a lot of money in your budget to allow for miscellaneous expenses such as these.

If you’re in love, then this day should not be spent worrying about the quantity of the presents that you receive, but about the quality time that you and your spouse get to spend together.

How about throwing a date night at home? It is one of the most frugal things that you can do this year to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Not only do you get to spend uninterrupted time with your special someone, but you also get the chance to make them a meal from the heart. Even if your cooking skills are not that of a chef, a new recipe can make a boring dinner pop. Along with the right table scape, you can create a romantic meal setting at home.

I have provided you with a downloadable meal plan for an easy appetizer and main course combo. Some of the items on the grocery list you may already find in your pantry. Other items can be purchased for very little. In all, this meal should run you less then $40. How is that for a frugal date? You will start with a very simple Mini Shrimp Eggroll Bites appetizer and lead into the Asian Stir Fry Pasta. For dessert? Premade brownies warmed in the microwave and topped with vanilla ice cream.

Valentine’s Day this year can be special, even if you are on a budget.

Or so we thought!  In our search for something a little bit different, we came across talking roses at FTD.com.  The screen shot at left shows what they look like.

More than just Valentines flowers, these vases come with a red plastic heart attached- which plays a recorded message of your voice!  After ordering the flowers online, you record a personalized message by telephone.  The florist transfers your phone message into the heart, attaches it to the vase, and your personal Valentine wish is ready for delivery! 

These talking flowers seem like a great option if you and your sweetheart are spending time apart this Valentine’s Day.  We especially love this idea for military spouses!  Deployed soldiers will love being able to send a personalized message with their own voice, letting their loved ones know that even though space is separating them physically, they’re still together in mind and heart.
